Miami Church Burglar Had Bigger Eyes Than Biceps

MIAMI, FL — Chalk it up to divine intervention or a case of a would-be burglar having eyes that were clearly bigger than his biceps. In either case, the large flatscreen television at the Iglesia Adventista Del Septimo church has been spared. Miami police released video of a hapless criminal struggling to lift the television on Monday.

The failed burglary took place during the morning of May 23, according to Officer Kiara Delva of the Miami Police Department. The church is located at 3500 NW 25 Ave.

"Miami police 0fficers received an alarm call at the church. Once officers arrived, it was discovered that the rear gate of the church was slightly opened. As officers continued to investigate, a television was observed on the ground along with burglary tools," Delva explained.

"Further investigation revealed that two separate entrances to the church were forced opened," she said. "Once the premises were secured, video surveillance provided by the key holder revealed a suspect who gained entry into the church and was unsuccessful in stealing the television."

The video shows the man outmatched by the television as he tried to make his way back onto the bicycle with the unwieldy object.

The burglar was described as a white male, approximately 20 to 35 years of age with short black hair. He was last seen riding the bicycle — without the television. He was wearing a dark green shirt and black shorts.
