Here are the top five stories in Miami today:
1. An investigation into Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony is complete and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has concluded that he lied multiple times on official documents. Tony was arrested and charged with murder when he was a teenager in Philadelphia. However, he was found not guilty and his record was expunged. The investigation found Tony lied multiple times when seeking a law enforcement position about his past. He will not be charged due to a statute of limitations. (CBS Miami)
2. A South Florida man went outside to find his van sunken into a Miami Gardens street after a water line broke on Monday in the area of Northwest 193rd Street and 34th Avenue. His van is back in his driveway now. (WSVN)
3. The sole survivor of a human smuggling operation that ended with 39 lives lost spoke to reporters on Monday and is seeking political asylum. Colombian national, Juan Esteban Montoya, says he was part of a group of 40 migrants that set out for Miami from Bimini. (WPLG Local 10)
4. City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez's Venture Miami Team is collaborating with AARP Innovation Labs to host a nationwide pitch competition on March 9th. The winner will receive up to $20,000 and meet with Suarez for a "Cafecito Talk." The audience's choice winner will receive $5,000. (Miami Today)
5. South Florida farmers took precautions to protect their crops ahead of the cold blast this past weekend, but it's still unclear how the plants will respond. Sam Accursio from Accursio & Sons Farms says it reached nearly 31 degrees on the farm. (CBS Miami)

Venom Unit Officers Jolie Vandervlugt, Rusty Shaw, and Pete Marrero joined members from other fire departments and animal control agencies for hands-on training to remove non-poisonous boas as well as poisonous copperheads and Eastern diamondbacks.
