Two friends were flying across Florida from Tamiami to Arcadia for tacos when their plane crashed in the Everglades, reports said.

SOUTH FLORIDA — Taco Tuesday was ruined for two South Florida men when their small plane crashed in the Everglades during a taco run across the state.

Jose Ecarri, 21, joined a pilot friend on a flight from Tamiami to Arcadia for tacos Tuesday morning in the friend’s single-engine Piper PA-32, Local 10 News reported.

Their flight was cut short when their engine failed around 2,000 feet and they landed in the Everglades, about 20 miles north of Ochopee.

They were rescued by a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopter just off I-75 near mile marker 55, reports said.

Ecarri told Local 10 News that when they landed in the Everglades, “We looked at each other and we were like, ‘We’re alive.’ This doesn’t happen very often.”
