South FL Agencies Lead Birthday Parade For Slain FBI Agent’s Son

FBI Agent Daniel Alfin was shot and killed in the line of duty while serving a federal search warrant Feb. 2. His son, Eli, turned 5 Sunday.

SOUTH FLORIDA — South Florida law enforcement and federal agencies organized a drive-by parade to celebrate the birthday of a slain FBI agent’s son.

FBI Special Agent Daniel Alfin was shot and killed, along with Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger, while serving a federal search warrant in a child pornography investigation Feb. 2 in Sunrise.

His son, Eli, turned 5 years old over the weekend. Multiple law enforcement agencies drove – and some even flew - by his family’s home in South Florida with gifts and well wishes for the birthday boy.

“The Alfin family has been through an indescribable loss and we wouldn’t miss the opportunity to join in this special celebration and show them our support,” the Broward County Sheriff’s Office tweeted Sunday.

The Coral Springs Police Department tweeted about the drive-by parade Monday.

“It was our great pleasure to work with (Broward County Sheriff’s Office) and local federal agencies to celebrate Eli Alfin's 5th birthday. We celebrate April 25th together, closer despite such tragedy. We are forever grateful for the service of Eli's dad and for Eli and his family,” the agency said.

Alfin, 36, was born in New York and first joined the FBI's Albany office in 2009, the FBI said. He was reassigned to FBI Miami in 2017 and worked crimes against children violations for more than six years. He is survived by his wife and his son.
