South Florida Man Charged In Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol Siege: DOJ

Richard L. Harris of Hollywood, Florida told officers that the Capitol mob was "listening to Trump," reports said.

HOLLYWOOD, FL — A South Florida man faces numerous charges for participating in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C., according to documents from the Department of Justice.

Richard L. Harris of Hollywood has been charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers; obstruction of an official proceeding; entering and remaining in a restricted building; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building; and disorderly conduct in a capitol building, the DOJ said.

According to his indictment, Harris “unlawfully and knowingly” entered a restricted building in an attempt to “corruptly obstruct, influence and impede an official proceeding…before Congress, by entering and remaining in the United States Capitol without authority and committing an act of civil disorder, and threatening Congressional officials, and engaging in disorderly and disruptive conduct and destroying federal property.”

There are at least 19 photos or videos of Harris inside the Capitol building, including one in which he is unmasked while talking to a police officer, one in which he is holding a telephone and another in which he has his arm around a statute of former President Gerald Ford, WKMG reported.

Harris reportedly told the officer in the photo that law enforcement was outnumbered at the Capitol as there were “a…million of us out there.” He also said that the mob was “listening to Trump.”
