PORT RICHEY, FL — A 2-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition after being struck by a car Wednesday.

Pasco County Fire Rescue said the child was hit in the 9000 block of Mark Twain Lane in Port Richey.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a 37-year-old driver was traveling south on Mark Twain Lane approaching Blackstone Drive when the 2-year-old darted across the street and into the path of the car. Troopers said the driver didn't see the child because of trash cans blocking his view.
