Every homeowner wants to stay cool in their homes, but no one wants to have to pay out the nose to do it. We put together a few easy and inexpensive ways that you can keep yourself comfortable this summer.
- Use Water
When water evaporates it absorbs heat from the area around it, which is how your body cools itself by sweating. You can use this same principle to cool yourself by soaking some towels in water and resting them on your wrists, neck or ankles.
Another way that you can use water is to take a cold shower to lower your body temperature. If you don’t have access to a pool you can also fill your bathtub with water. If you have kids, you can turn on your sprinklers and create an instant rain shower.

- Get Out of Your Home
Another great way to stay cool and reduce your energy usage is to get out of your house and let someone else pay for the air conditioning. Consider heading to a movie, your local ice-skating rink, a museum or to your local mall where you can spend some time in their air conditioning system.
- Run the Fans
Another great thing that you can do is to turn on your fans. Ceiling fans can make you feel cooler, which means you don’t have to turn the AC on as high. They can also help circulate the air conditioned air throughout your home.

- Cold Foods
Another way that you can stay cool is to eat some ice cream or make an ice smoothie. Those types of cold foods can lower your body temperature as well.
- Stay Hydrated
Making sure that you have enough water in your body is critical to staying cool. Also, if you’re sweating you need to be able to replace those fluids.
There are more ways to stay cool than simply turning up the AC. Try out some of these techniques for the rest of the summer, and you’ll be surprised how much energy you can save. Saving energy is not only good for the environment, it can also save you a lot of money on your utility bills!
