6-Foot Gator Knocks on Woman's Door

The alligator involved in the strange occurrence is still on the loose in Brevard County.

As many long-time Floridians know, run-ins with alligators in residential areas aren’t all that uncommon. What is uncommon, however, is having a gator come right up and knock on a door.

But, that’s what Suntree resident Marie Maxwell, 75, said happened last Saturday, according to Florida Today. The woman was watching “Jeopardy” when she heard not one, but two knocks on the door.

When she opened that door, she was surprised to find a 6-foot gator on the porch.

Alarmed, Maxwell called police, but the gator took off, likely for a neighborhood pond, before they arrived, WFTV reported. A trapper was called out and did manage to pull a 4-footer out of that pond, but not the one Maxwell says knocked on her door.

The search for the polite critter continues both news agencies report.

Reports of knocking gators haven’t come out of the Tampa Bay area as of late, but there was a “two-headed” alligator that created quite a buzz in Seminole Heights recently. In nearby Pasco County, deputies did find a baby gator trying to make itself a home on a Trinity family’s front stoop.
