Armed Carjackers Foiled by Stick Shift

It seems the Florida pair had no idea how to drive a standard transmission car.

An armed pair of would-be carjackers got more than they bargained for recently when they tried to swipe a 2014 Toyota Corolla from a man in Ocala.

It seems the intended victim was sitting inside his car Wednesday night, chatting on a cellphone, when a man with a gun came up to the window, Florida Today reported. A second man stood by the passenger window as the victim obliged to their request to vacate the car and hand over its keys.

The attempted carjacking went south from there when the crooks realized neither knew how to drive a stick shift, the Ocala Star Banner reported. As the men fumbled with the car, their victim flagged down another motorist to call police.

Realizing they were bested by Corolla’s standard transmission, the pair fled from the car. The victim was able to recover it with the keys still in the ignition, the paper reported.

By the time police arrived, the two were long gone.
