Bayonet Point Man Accused Of Raping Female Roommate

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — A 68-year-old Bayonet Point man has been charged with sexual batter after being accused of raping his 50-year-old female roommate.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, Leonard Lawver of U.S. 19 was arrested Wednesday in connection to the April 7 sexual assault of his roommate.

The woman told deputies that, during her first night at Lawver's home, he began drinking heavily and making sexual advances toward her. He later offered her a sleeping aid, which she took.

The next morning, she said she awoke to find her pants and underwear pulled down and Lawver touching her.

Evidence collected at the scene was submitted to Florida Department of Law Enforcement labs. The lab's analysis showed the presence of semen containing Lawver's DNA in the victim's underwear.

Lawver was taken to the Land O' Lakes Detention Center where bond was set at $10,000.
