Bicyclist Killed in Hudson Hit-And-Run

A 53-year-old Spring Hill man is dead following a hit-and-run crash on Kitten Trail in Hudson.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday as Thomas Elliot Downing was riding a bicycle eastbound on Kitten Trail approaching Dennis Drive.

At that same time, a Ford F250 driven by Melissa Sue Brandl, 40, of Hudson was heading east on Kitten Trail.

Brandl, troopers wrote in a report, did not see Downing and struck his bicycle.

Downing suffered fatal injuries and died at the crash scene, troopers say.

Brandl left the scene of the crash, but was later located courtesy of an anonymous tip, troopers said.

Charges are pending.
