Brooksville Pilot Decapitated By Helicopter Blade

A gruesome accident involving a helicopter at the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport Thursday has killed a 62-year-old pilot.

BROOKESVILLE, FL -- A gruesome accident involving a helicopter at the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport Thursday has killed a 62-year-old helicopter and plane pilot.

According to Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis, around 3:30 p.m., Salvatore Disi and another man were using a power cart to jump-start a helicopter when the helicopter suddenly jerked up and came back down. The motion caused the main rotor blades to spin and strike Disi, decapitating him.

According to the sheriff, Disi died instantly.

Nienhuis has asked the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board to investigate the accident.
