BUSINESS PARTNERS LEVERAGE DECADES OF EXPERIENCE INTO CHILDCARE CENTER

Due to the Success of Area Centers, Discovery Point Plans 3 Additional Locations in Tampa Metro Area

(Trinity, Fla.) – Cherie Livernois and Nancy Fields know a thing or two about childcare. The co-owners of the Discovery Point Child Development Center located at 2132 Duck Slough Blvd. in Trinity, Fla., are both mothers and grandmothers and have over 50 combined years of experience in the field of childcare. They opened Discovery Point in Trinity 10 years ago to put their decades of experience to use for the Trinity and New Port Richey communities they serve. Livernois’s career spans 33 years in the childcare field, which has included several different positions from teaching to management, while Fields has been in the field for 24 years.

“Both of us love being around children and are invested in providing the best care and learning experiences for the young people in our community,” said Livernois. “Over the years, the demands from parents have changed and we now see a greater emphasis than ever before on early childhood education and development. Parents want to know that their children are not only safely and lovingly being cared for each day, but that they are also learning and developing in a fun environment.”

Discovery Point Child Development Centers is a leading network of childcare facilities throughout the southeastern United States. Operating on the philosophy of “caring for the children as if they were your own,” the company focuses on creating an environment where children learn, play and develop intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.

Fields began her childcare career with Discovery Point near its inception in Georgia 24 years ago. “I started teaching, then worked my way up through management and eventually owned two locations in Georgia,” she explained. Livernois taught elementary-level physical education before she decided to open her own childcare center. In 2003, Fields moved to Florida and opened the Trinity location, Florida’s very first Discovery Point. She hired Livernois to be her director. A year later, in 2004, Livernois and Fields became partners and co-owners of the Trinity location.

“I’ve always loved being around children so I can’t imagine doing anything else,” Livernois said. Working together is an even greater advantage, with both women able to combine their experience in childcare and familiarity with Discovery Point’s mission and systems in order to provide the best possible services to their community. That’s been important as the economic recession and an explosion of local competition temporarily slowed enrollment rates.

“Some families utilized grandparents because of the economy,” said Fields, “and we understood and sympathized with them. But parents really value our center and what we provide and we know that because enrollment is picking up again.”

The partners are dedicated to the children enrolled in their center, viewing them almost as their own family. “I have fallen in love with every child who has enrolled in the last decade,” said Fields. Livernois actually has her own family in the center with her often. “My first grandson attends school here with me three days a week,” she said. “It’s wonderful to see him socializing and growing with all the things he learns here at Discovery Point.”

Discovery Point was founded in 1988 by Cliff and Diane Clark. They built the company on the fundamental belief that children thrive in an environment rooted in love and nurturing.  Discovery Point began franchising in 1991 and currently has 51 locations in Georgia, Florida and Tennessee and a new location opening in North Carolina in 2014. The company currently has 12 locations in the Greater Tampa Metro Area and expects to add three locations within the next three to five years. They are targeting surrounding Tampa areas for growth.
