
The presidential campaign brought out our best and worst. There were the demonstrations, name calling, character smears, truths, half-truths and down right lies. Each election cycle drives the nation deeper into the mosh pit. The results favored the new President Elect Donald Trump. President Obama will complete his eight year tenure then extricated from presidential burdens.
The USA has a history of great, not so great, and poor Presidents. It cannot be denied that our strong constitution has enabled us to survive them all. Whether "The Donald" proves to be a great or a poor President, the nation will survive him as well. We are a resilient country that sooner or later overcomes poor policy and thrives on good direction.
One message is clear from this election, politics as usual has lost public support. The American people latched on to outsiders. Democrat, Bernie Sanders soared in popularity as did Republican, Donald Trump; each lacking support from party leadership.

The Republican Party accepted the will of their constituents while a fractured Democratic Party followed a more traditional course and lost the election. The losses were felt in Federal and State congressional races. On the national level the Republicans have both House and Senate majorities.
It is said that a man can be defined by who he walks with. Over the next few months as Trump makes cabinet appointments Americans will have the first glimpse of who "The Donald" really is - speeches aside. At stake are education, health care, jobs, infrastructure needs, and safe streets. My best, Mr. President-Elect and good luck to all of us. MJY
