City Moves to Raise Water Fees

Do you agree with the idea?

Renters in New Port Richey may soon face higher fees for water service if an ordinance being floated by City Council gets a nod of approval.

City council members heard a first reading of the proposal that would raise deposits on water accounts from $125 to $200 for renters, according to the Tampa Bay Times. That same ordinance would also charge landlords $8 a month for vacant properties tied to city sewer and water lines and would reduce delinquency time from 25 to 20 days.

The proposed changes are being considered to help curb the costs the city incurs when renters leave without paying their water bills. A second reading and vote is required for the changes to go into effect.
