Commissioner Gets Caged for the Animals
Pat Mulieri got a dog's-eye view of life at the Pasco County Animal Services shelter.
Ever wonder what it’s like to be a dog in an animal shelter?
Pasco County Commissioner Pat Mulieri found out first-hand Saturday, June 1 when she and her rescue dog, Calvin, had themselves caged to raise awareness about the many animals available for adoption in Land O’ Lakes.
Mulieri’s weekend visit to the Land O’ Lakes shelter also kicked off Pasco’s participation in the ASPCA’s Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. The winner of that contest gets $100,000 to help with shelter needs.

In order to qualify for the prizes, Pasco has to adopt out 811 dogs and cats this summer.
To help reach that goal, the 19640 Dogpatch Lane shelter is offering half-priced adoptions through June, said spokeswoman Judy Gregory. It’s also playing host to $5 Feline Fridays. That means residents who want to adopt cats can do so for only $5 each Friday through the end of the month.
