Firefighters Battle Stilt Home Fire In Gulf Of Mexico
Pasco County Fire Rescue were called to the scene of a fire at a stilt home on the Gulf of Mexico at the mouth of the Cotee River.
PORT RICHEY, FL -- With help from surrounding fire departments and the Pasco County Sheriff Office, Pasco County Fire Rescue was able to put out a fire at a historic stilt home on the Gulf of Mexico at the mouth of the Cotee River.
At 7:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, Pasco County firefighters were called to the well-known stilt house nicknamed the American Flag Stilt Home. The home on the water was fully engulfed in flames.
With the help of Pasco County Sheriff's marine units and a portable fire pump from Port Richey Fire Rescue, firefighters were able to battle the fire from the water. They also received assistance from Palm Harbor Fire Rescue's fireboat. Nevertheless, the home was completely destroyed.

The home wasn't occupied and no injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation but does not appear suspicious.
Boaters in the area are asked to use caution due to the possibility of floating debris in the water.
