Free Summer Meals For Kids Kicked Off In Pasco

A number of schools throughout Pasco County are providing free meals for kids this summer.

Pasco County, FL — Pasco County parents worried about their children’s nutrition as summer kicks into high gear have a place to turn for help. The school district has announced the launch of its free summer meals program.

The program kicked off Monday at most schools throughout the county. Staged in conjunction with the U.S. Department of
Agriculture, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and local agencies, the program provides meals and snacks for free to all kids age 18 and under.

Last year, Pasco County Schools served up 267,384 meals and 23,861 snacks to kids at 83 different sites across the county. Those sites included six retrofitted school buses that were used as mobile feeding sites.

“Knowing that not all of the children are able to make it to a summer feeding site, 11,842 meals were delivered to Pasco County children using the buses,” the school district reported in a media release.
