Great Chinese-American Cuisine Prepared Just the Way I Like It!

Sung Hee Restaurant satisfies your hunger for crispy and spicy dishes.

I've been looking for a good Chinese restaurant in New Port Richey for years. Who would have thought it's been right around the corner on U.S. 19?

Sung Hee is a traditional U.S.-Chinese restaurant. The large dining room is colorful with gold and red brocade wallpaper, crisp white tablecloths and Chinese lantern-styled rice paper chandeliers. High ceilings and open spaces create a feeling of airiness.

We were greeted promptly by a friendly hostess and asked our preference for a table or booth. Our waitress was pleasant, attentive and efficient.

But on to what I really cared about... The hot and sour soup was delicious----just spicy enough with a touch of vinegar to add that tanginess. The General Tso’s Chicken, my favorite at any time, was delicious.  Large chunks of chicken are fried crispy and served in a rich, thick chili sauce. I ordered it medium, since the waitress wanted a preference, but that proved to be really mild. Next time I'll specify spicy. The lemon chicken was crispy, tender and lemony enough that we didn't have to ask for extra lemons. Spicy dishes are marked, so you can order accordingly.

In addition, if you’re like me and don’t much care about plain white rice, you can substitute fried rice for a small charge. Too many places make you order a full entrée of fried rice when all you want is a small side order.

Sung Hee prides itself in being family owned for 30 years. I believe that they closed for a short time a few years ago, but am so pleased that they have returned.
