Home Teetering On VERY BIG 'Depression' (Can't Call It A 'Sinkhole')

Crews are on the Holiday scene, and some nearby neighbors evacuated.

PASCO COUNTY, FL -- Pasco County Fire Rescue, Emergency Management and the Sheriff's Office are on the scene today on the 5000 block of Genesis Avenue in Holiday where a large "depression" has opened up in the ground beneath a home's foundation, according to officials.

The hole is estimated to be 25 feet to 30 feet wide and approximately 10 feet deep, the Pasco Sheriff's Office said. A 100-foot safety perimeter is in place around the property.

Calls to emergency personnel came in at 1:30 p.m., and the homeowner, who is out of state, was notified.

While "sinkhole" may seem like the obvious term to use, "depression" is the preferred verbiage for now, until experts examine the hole and its cause, according to reports.

Crews are monitoring the scene and providing updates, as needed.
