Lit Candle in Car Sparks Gas Station Fire
The blaze destroyed a woman's car and damaged a nearby gas pump.

A woman driving around with a lit candle in the cup holder of her car turned up the heat at a Lake City gas station Wednesday.
The woman pulled into the State Road 100 and U.S. 90 Spires gas station around 2 p.m., put some gas in her car and went inside. Moments later another customer rushed inside tell the woman her car was on fire, KRMG reported.
The Columbia County Fire Department was called out and found the car engulfed in flames. Their quick action “averted a potential disaster,” the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office wrote on its Facebook page.

When all was said and done, the car and a nearby pump were damaged, but the whole station didn’t go up in flames.
The woman, who hasn’t been identified, won’t face charges, KRMG quoted the sheriff’s office spokesman Murray Smith as saying. The incident is being treated as an accident.
