Looking For A Free Ride? PCPT Route 54 Starts With No Fares

Pasco County Public Transportation is offering free rides on Route 54's inaugural day.

PORT RICHEY, FL – In celebration of improving Bus Route 54, Pasco County Public Transportation is offering free service for the new County Connector Route 54 on its first day of service.

On Monday, Aug. 15, the public can ride the County Connector Route 54 free of charge. Riders can board the bus anywhere along its route between U.S. Highway 19 and State Road 54 and ride one round trip for free.

The new route was part of major changes to two of Pasco County’s main bus routes, The 54 Cross County Connector Route and Little Road Route 23. The improved service along State Road 54 include:

  • A more frequent schedule, with buses running every hour instead of two hours
  • Two brand new buses with cushioned seats, reading lights and luggage racks
  • New Saturday Service
  • Service from U.S. Highway 19 to the Shops at Wiregrass and Tampa Premium Outlets

The County Connector Route 54 will also feature direct transfers from:

  • Bus Route 14 Madison Street
  • Bus Route 18 Tarpon Springs/Grand Boulevard
  • Bus Route 25 Rowan Road
  • Bus Route 23 Little Road

The Route 23 Little Road improvements incorporate the service route along State Road 54 from Little Road into the Connector Route.

Pasco County Commissioners approved the changes to the routes during their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 26. The route’s new buses were paid for through a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation.

The changes are expected to provide shorter wait times, fewer transfers between buses, a more comfortable ride, better connections to Hillsborough County’s HART system in the Wiregrass area and more efficient access to shopping, education and services.
