Man Found in Pithlachascotee River Identified

The discovery was made Sunday night.

The Port Richey Police Department has confirmed the identity of the man found in the Pithlachascotee River Sunday night.

David Albert Slingerland, 67, of Hudson had been reported missing to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office Sunday morning. Port Richey Police received a call about a man’s body in the river around 5:15 p.m.

Slingerland’s death does not appear to involved foul play, Port Richey police reported.

Slingerland sent text messages to a friend and a family member during the early morning hours Sunday that caused alarm. When they could not locate him, they reported the disappearance to deputies, Port Richey Police wrote in an email to media.

Slingerland’s car was found parked behind the Hooter’s restaurant at 5336 Treadway Drive in Port Richey.
