National Safe Boating Week

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. – Tarpon Springs Mayor David O. Archie presented a Proclamation to Auxiliarist Roy Warner, Flotilla Staff Officer for Human Relations of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Tarpon Springs Flotilla 11-9, at City Hall on May 7th, 2014, declaring May 17th to 23rd as "National Safe Boating Week" in Tarpon Springs.

Coast Guard Auxiliary activities during National Safe Boating Week include displays on Saturday, May 17th from 10 AM to 2 PM on the Sponge Docks, featuring a 25-foot Coast Guard boat from Station Sand Key, an Auxiliary patrol boat "Sea Bear" (captained by Auxiliarist Lou Davis) and safe boating gear and equipment provided by West Marine. Other Auxiliarists will have materials at West Marine stores on Moog Road in Holiday and on Tarpon Avenue in Tarpon Springs from 10 AM to noon on May 17th. 

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary sponsors "About Boating Safely" courses in their classroom at Turtle Cove Marina, 827 Roosevelt Boulevard, Tarpon Springs, on the second Saturday of every month from 9 AM to noon. Cost is $40 and includes all printed materials. Florida Boater Safety Certification Cards are given to individuals who successfully complete the course.
