Pasco County Issues Cold Weather Alert

The county is opening its cold weather shelters Saturday and Sunday nights.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — With temperatures anticipated to drop in Pasco County following Friday’s rains, residents are being warned to brace for near-freezing weather in the days ahead.

To help those without housing or adequate heat escape outdoor conditions, Pasco County has announced its cold weather shelters will open overnight Saturday, Jan.23, and Sunday, Jan. 24.

“A cold front will be moving into our area that will allow temperatures to fall into the lower 30s,” the county explained in a media release. “These low temperatures and wind chills are dangerous to anyone who will be outside for a long period of time. Children, the elderly, and pets are especially vulnerable to the cold and extra care should be taken to protect them.”
