PORT RICHEY, FL — The Pinellas-Pasco County State Attorney's Office and Florida Department of Law Enforcement have found a fatal shooting by a Pasco County Sheriff's deputy to be justified, announced Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco.

On Saturday, June 27, Port Richey resident Bonnie Figueroa-Ortiz, 40, was reported missing. Deputies were responding to another call unrelated to the missing persons case when they encountered Figueroa-Ortiz.

Deputies said they approached Figueroa-Ortiz and she fled, pulling out a gun and shooting at one of the deputies as she ran away. The deputy fired back, striking her one time.

Pasco Fire Rescue paramedics attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but she was pronounced dead.
