Woman Killed After Shooting At Pasco Deputy Identified

A woman was killed Saturday afternoon after she shot a gun at a Pasco County Sheriff's Office deputy who returned fire.

PORT RICHEY, FL β€” The woman killed Saturday afternoon after she shot a gun at a Pasco County Sheriff's Office deputy who returned fire has been identified as Bonnie Figueroa-Ortiz, 40.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, Figueroa-Ortiz was reported as missing at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Deputies were responding to another call for service, unrelated to Figueroa-Ortiz's missing persons case, when they encountered Figueroa-Ortiz.

Deputies said they approached Figueroa-Ortiz and she fled, shooting at one of the deputies. The deputy fired back, striking her one time. Pasco Fire Rescue paramedics attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but she was pronounced dead.

The deputy who she fired at was not injured.

Due to a statewide policy change, the deputy-involved shooting will be conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The sheriff's office will continue to conduct the criminal investigation involving the woman.
