A 38-year-old Lakeland man’s alleged attempt to shoplift items from a 7-Eleven on Duff Road was doomed from the start, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The entire incident happened to be witnessed by a detective who was sitting in a parked, unmarked patrol car outside the store as the crime unfolded, the agency reported Monday.

Florida License-Free Fishing Days Around The Corner

Just in time for National Fishing and Boating Week, the state of Florida has announced an upcoming freshwater license-free fishing weekend. From June 10-11, residents and visitors to the Sunshine State are invited to cast their lines into freshwater bodies without the need for standard licensing.

Five workers are dead after a lone gunman, who authorities described as a disgruntled former employee, opened fire at Fiamma Inc. in Orlando Monday morning. According to Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings, the John Robert Neumann Jr. walked into the business around 8 a.m. armed with a handgun and knife.

2nd St. Pete Shooting In A Day Under Investigation

The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating a second Monday shooting involving a middle-aged man. Although the crime has similarities to one reported earlier on Monday, authorities say the two shootings are not related.
