Restaurant Inspections: Roaches On Cook Line, Expired License
State inspectors temporarily shut down a few restaurants in the Tampa Bay area last week.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation ordered emergency closures at two area eateries last week when conditions inside didn’t meet state guidelines for health and safety.
Roach activity, dirty conditions and improper food storage were among the biggest reasons behind the temporary closings. In its Emergency Closures report for the week ending March 20, the state noted these local restaurants had been ordered shut until they cleaned up their acts:
Trinity
Grille 54, 10900 State Road 54
- Initial inspection date – March 16
- High priority violations – 5
- Intermediate violations – 5
- Basic violations – 10
A crusty can opener blade, a dirty floor and improper food storage raised red flags, according to the state inspection report. Dead roaches were also found on the floor under canned goods, and lots of live ones were discovered, as well. “Approximately 10 live on bags of food on cook line,” the state reported noted. Crawling critters were also found near the cook line and prep line. The eatery was allowed to reopen after meeting state standards on March 17.
Tampa
Asados Al Carbon, 7212 N. Armenia Ave.
- Initial inspection date – March 14
- High priority violations – 6
- Intermediate violations – 3
- Basic violations – 16
The inspector noted such concerns as employee failure to use a hair net, a greasy kitchen floor and an expired hotel and restaurant license. Live, flying insects were also found inside the establishment, improper food temperature control was discovered and non-food grade containers were in use. The inspector also found 12 live roaches behind the chest freezer, one on a wall and a few under a sink. The establishment was allowed to reopen after meeting state standards on March 15.
