For seniors, the New Year is a great time to make a positive change

Tips for setting New Year's Resolutions that improve mind, body and overall well-being

TAMPA, Fla. (Dec. 29, 2015) — It’s that time of year again: time to set your New Year’s resolutions and start making the changes you’ve been dreaming about. For seniors, the New Year is a great time to improve your mind, body and overall health, according to The Watermark at Trinity, a new assisted living and memory care community opening in the Pasco County neighborhood of Trinity in April 2016.

“Setting New Year’s resolutions may seem trivial, but the clean slate of a new year is a wonderful opportunity to take the first step in achieving your goals for the coming year,” said Aileen Carlson, executive director of The Watermark at Trinity. “By setting your intentions at the beginning of the year and making small, gradual changes, you’ll achieve far more than if you didn’t set resolutions at all.”

This is important at any age, but for seniors, New Year’s resolutions can have a powerful impact, particularly when these changes are aimed to strengthen the body, sharpen the mind or add fun to your day-to-day life.

“Stimulating the mind and strengthening the body has enormous benefits at any age,” said Carlson. “But it’s also important for seniors to add friendship, excitement, new challenges and creative endeavors to their lives.”

With this in mind, the following resolutions are a great way for seniors to make a positive change in 2016:

· Focus on nutrition. For many, New Year’s resolutions often focus on losing weight. However, for seniors, it is important that nutrition is their main focus. Try implementing more protein into your diet, or limit your intake of sweets. The food that we eat fuels our bodies, and it’s important that you are getting the best fuel possible to strengthen your body and mind.

· Be more active. No matter where you find yourself in your life’s journey, there are ways to increase your physical activity. For instance, chair aerobics are a great way for those with limited mobility to maintain their strength and improve stamina.

· Try something new. The New Year is a great time to try something new. Take that art class that you’ve always dreamed of, or ballroom dancing. Who knows, you might just find a new hobby and make some great friends in the process.

· Enjoy nature. Whether you are 65 or 95, you are never too old to enjoy the beauty that Florida has to offer. In 2016, spend more time outdoors, whether taking a walk through the garden or even simply sitting quietly in a beautiful natural setting.

· Spend more time with friends. Not all New Year’s resolutions have to be about you. In 2016, consider spending more time with friends, whether you get together for dinner or lunch, or just sit and talk over a cup of coffee. Friendship is one of life’s many blessings, and should be nurtured and cherished.

Located in Trinity’s Foxwood Commerce Park, The Watermark at Trinity will feature 117 apartments available for rent across many unique floor plans and sizes. On-site amenities will include lush gardens, walking paths, a movie theater, beauty salon and barbershop. The new community will also feature educational classes taught by associates and residents, certified staff and continuous care. Residents will also have the option of Thrive Dining, with hand-held meal portions for those with physical and cognitive challenges.
