NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — A 41-year-old Hudson man was arrested after deputies said he did a bizarre thing after breaking into a car.

According to Pasco County Sheriff's deputies, on Sunday Douglas Austin Surnicki of Charmwood Drive broke into a Pontiac G6 in the 10600 block of Bounty Street and proceeded to remove his shorts and underwear and put on a pair of children's shorts he discovered in the center console of the car. He subsequently fell asleep in the Pontiac where he was eventually discovered by the car's owner.

When the owner ordered Surnicki out of his car, Surnicki exited wearing the children's shorts around his upper thighs, leaving his crotch and buttocks exposed.

When questioned by deputies, Surnicki said his truck got stuck in some mud on Bounty Street, so he began walking until he encountered the Pontiac. He did not explain why his own shorts and underwear were found on the ground outside the car and why he donned the too-small child's shorts.

He was charged with auto burglary.
