Teen Crashes Into Port Richey Home
A Port Richey teen is facing charges after taking his mother's car without permission and crashing into a house.
PORT RICHEY, FL -- A Port Richey teen is facing charges of reckless driving after taking his motherβs Ford Explorer without permission and crashing it into a home on Candlewick Lane at Bimini Drive.
The 17-year-old is a new driver with only a learnerβs permit. He told troopers he took his motherβs SUV and was traveling east on Bimini Drive, approaching Candlewick Lane. When he reached the stop sign at the intersection, he told troopers the accelerator locked up, causing him to lose control and hit the house.
When questioned further, the beginning driver said he may have pressed the gas instead of the brake.

Trooper tested the brakes and found them functional.
The teen sustained minor injuries. The occupant of the home was not injured.

He's been charged with reckless driving, failure to stop for the stop sign, not wearing his seat belt and violation of a learner's permit.
