Librivox is an internationally recognized group of readers, narrators, voice-over artists, sound editors, graphic artists, proof listeners and computer whizzes who have the goal of making as many works of the printed word available for free over the Internet or downloadable to a mobile device. As a proud member of Librivox I have recorded many stories, essays, book chapters, poems, dramatic readings and even full length books. Librivox, by the way, means variously Free Word, Free Voice, or Book Voice. There are other variations of the word as well. I prefer “Free Word,” thus the lead-in to this blog post.
I am pleased to announce that Librivox has just released its annual collection of short Christmas recordings entitled “Christmas Short Works Collection 20213.” My contribution to this particular project is a reading of Susan Coolidge’s classic Christmas story “The Pink Sweetmeat” (also known as “Who Ate the Pink Sweetmeat?").
This recording includes works of Robert Louis Stevenson (“A Christmas Sermon”), Charles Dickens (“Christmas at Fezziwig’s Warehouse”), O. Henry (“A Chaparral Christmas Gift”) and Christopher Morley (“The Perfect Reader”) to name but a few. What began as a multi-lingual project ended up with stories primarily in the English language. However, selected stories are available in Finnish and German.

I intend to periodically highlight some of the recording projects I have been a part of. Nothing seemed better to kick off this feature of my blog than shining this spotlight on some of the Christmas season’s most-beloved authors and their holiday stories.
If you have any questions about Librivox or would just like to leave me a comment please do so. I will respond to you as soon as may be possible. Until the next posting I would like to take a moment to wish you a very blessed Christmas season, and a joyous New Year!
