A unique, revolutionary technique in creating art, called "Spinning" will be the theme of the March, 2014 exhibition making its debut on March 7 at the Downtown New Port Richey Art Gallery. The artwork is being presented by the Spin D'Arte Group, founded by Robert Sutherland, who teaches the medium at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center. An opening wine and cheese reception will be held from 6 to 9 pm that evening and is open to the public at no charge.
Sutherland will perform on-site demonstrations of how spinning is performed and the artwork is created, usually without a preconceived idea. The technique involves painting in one area of the canvas at a time, then turning the canvas multiple times, working in different areas until one, two, three or up to four different paintings on one canvas can be discerned. It's the ultimate in expressionism and artistic freedom, and is an extremely emotional form of painting. The exhibition will continue through March 29 at the Gallery, which is open Wed - Saturdays, from noon until 6 p.m.
Also on display at the Gallery during March will be an extensive student photography exhibit from the Pasco eSchool, Pasco County's virtual classroom. Call 727-848-6500 or e-mail us at: nprgallery1@gmail.com for information.
