Watch: Pasco Sheriff's K9 Yager Apprehends His 1st Suspect

Yager caught his first alleged bad guy since joining the Pasco Sheriff's K9 team a year ago.

SPRING HILL, FL -- Yager earned an extra scoop of kibbles today.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office K9 dog was instrumental in tracking down a car theft suspect, his first official capture of an alleged bad guy since joining the Pasco Sheriff's K9 team a year ago.

According to the sheriff's office, on Friday, April 13, deputies tried to pull over Aaron Joaquim Demello, 28, of 1169 Barranca Ave., Spring Hill, for speeding in the area of Bosley Drive and Lawless Road on the Pasco County side of Springhill.

Instead of pulling over, however, Demello fled from deputies. Deputies quickly learned why. The car he was driving had been stolen.

Deputies pursued Demello until a tire on the car blew out. Demello then reportedly got out of the stolen car and ran into some nearby woods.

That's when Yager and his handler, Deputy Michael Sentner, joined the chase, quickly apprehending Demello.

Although Yager has had some successful drug searches, this was his first apprehension of a suspect on the run.

Demello had multiple felony warrants out for his arrest in Pasco County. He was charged with fleeing to elude, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony habitual driving on a suspended license, vehicle theft, dealing in stolen property, resisting arrest without violence and failure to appear.

He was booked into the Land O' Lakes Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.

The video footage is from the Sentner's body cam.
