Watch: Raccoon In Can Jam; Pasco Firefighters To The Rescue
Pasco County firefighters have rescued an inquisitive raccoon with its head rammed in a tin can.
NEW PORT RICHEY, FL -- First it was a fox with its head caught in a mayonnaise jar. Now Pasco County firefighters have rescued an inquisitive raccoon with its head rammed in a tin can.
Tuesday morning, Aug. 21, firefighters from Station 11 in New Port Richey returned from a call to find a raccoon behind the station with its head stuck in a tin food can.
Firefighters quickly sprung into action and came up with a plan to catch the unfortunate little guy and help it out of its can jam.

It proved an easier task than the one members of Pasco Fire Rescue Station 26 in Wesley Chapel tackled in June after finding a fox near the fire station with its head stuck in a jar (see related story). In that case, firefighters tried for a week to capture the fox before finally calling in an animal rescue group to set a trap.
By contrast, it took just a few minutes for firefighters to catch the raccoon, which couldn't see the firefighters coming with a tin can on its head.

Firefighters then used wire cutters to free the curious critter from the can and return him to the wild.
