Wawa's 50th Anniversary SurPrize Patrol Presents Port Richey 5-Star Store Customer Celebration
Wawa Honors Top 50 5-Star Stores, Awards 50 Surprises to Customers/Associates at Store Event, and Presents Wawa Community Foundation Checks

Port Richey, Florida (November 18, 2014) – Wawa, Inc. today announced its Port Richey store located at 8519 US 19 North in Port Richey, Florida would be the latest recipient of its 5-Star Store Service Award. Recently, on the heels of its 50th anniversary celebration, Wawa began the presentation of 5-Star Service Awards, honoring the top 50 stores throughout its chain for in-store excellence and customer appreciation. All of the 5-Star Service stores are chosen as a result of Wawa’s Voice of the Customer surveys, which give insightful and direct customer feedback on everything from in-store operations to overall sentiment.
During each event, customers and associates receive a visit from Wawa’s SurPrize Patrol, a gift gang who showers attendees with over 50 surprise gifts to celebrate the honor, while customers, associates and community partners are brought together to take part in the occasion. At each event, Wawa will document the unique customer, associates, and community partner stories, creating the first ever “Wawamentary,” Wawa’s documentary detailing the intangibles that define the Wawa Way.
“This year has been filled with exciting milestones and surpassed our wildest dreams, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to feature and recognize the stores that have truly paved and continue to pave our Wawa Way,” said Chris Gheysens, Wawa’s President and CEO. “With each stop the SurPrize Patrol makes, I am reminded of the incredible bond our customers and associates share, and we are excited to share this with the world through our Wawamentary! We are grateful for our customers’ honest feedback so that we can continue to evolve and improve, as well as recognize the store teams that exemplify commitment to fulfill lives every day!”

On Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Store 5108’s 5-Star Service Award celebration will begin! To kick-off the festivities, Wawa will honor the 5-Star store with a Smilestone parade, a visual and tangible parade of the customer stories define the Wawa Way. From images of customers getting married in stores, to a student who started a flash mob to bid farewell to her Wawa, the parade will embody the passion customers feel for THEIR Wawa. After a brief message from Todd Souders, Wawa Director of Store Operations, customers will come up to share their Wawa stories. Associates will then be recognized through a special presentation, demonstrating the role they fill in customers’ lives. Wawa will make a donation of $1,000 to Feeding America Tampa Bay on behalf of the Wawa Foundation, Wawa’s new non-profit designed to increase its charitable impact. At each event we will give away over 50 random prizes from a Smilestone bag, which will include everything from free coffee, to free hoagies, to mugs, towels, and t-shirts. The 5-Star Service celebration will end with a special 5-star cake and Wawa Way song to be enjoyed by all attendees.
5-Star Service Celebrations By the Numbers
Wawa’s Port Richey 5-Star Service Award is part of this year’s 5-Star Service Celebrations; in 2014, Wawa will celebrate 50 stores for 5-Star service, the top two stores in each region. To become a 5-Star store, the store must collect 40 surveys a month, and receive high marks in overall satisfaction from its customers. This will be Wawa’s first year of 5-Star celebrations. During these celebrations Wawa will:
· Give away more than 10,000 cups of free coffee
· Honor over 200 Smilestone customers
· Donate over $35,000 to the various local charities through The Wawa Foundation

About Wawa, Inc.
Wawa, Inc., a privately held company, began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey. Toward the end of the 19th Century, owner George Wood took an interest in dairy farming and the family began a small processing plant in Wawa, PA in 1902. The milk business was a huge success, due to its quality, cleanliness and “certified” process. As home delivery of milk declined in the early 1960’s, Grahame Wood, George’s grandson, opened the first Wawa Food Market in 1964 as an outlet for dairy products. Today, Wawa is your all day, every day stop for fresh, built-to-order foods, beverages, coffee, fuel services, and surcharge-free ATM’s. A chain of more than 640 convenience retail stores (over 365 offering gasoline), Wawa stores are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Central Florida. The stores offer a large fresh food service selection, including Wawa brands such as built-to-order hoagies, freshly-brewed coffee, hot breakfast sandwiches, built-to-order Specialty Beverages, and an assortment of soups, sides and snacks.
