Okay, I'm a rookie at Medicare, having just been a member for one year, but I'm not a rookie at medical forms and terminology. My resume includes some years working in Nursing Homes and a short stint working in a Doctor's office where one of my jobs was filling out forms for insurance claims.
An admission I will make is that I was remiss at my recent medical checkup in that I neglected to present the new Medicare Card I had been recently issued.
So, the letters I've been receiving from the Medicare Administrative Contractor are as a result of my own mistakes.
In filling out the form requested, however, I ran into an interesting abbreviation. I am asked to write my "correct HIC#. I've figured it out, but seriously, there are at least a couple of other ways this could be phrased an or abbreviated that would be less obtuse and confusing.
As I have said, I'm a newbie, so not that old and I have some experience. What of my much older friends who are trying to navigate these cloudy waters?
If you need to have someone's Medicare Number, as it appears on their card I hope you will not resort to asking for their HIC#.
