Why Is Affordable Health Care So Un-affordable?
Fringe medicine is the father of modern medicine. Holistic healers, shaman and others, burning at the stake started today's medical industry

What Goes Around
We’ve become a nation of lemmings. So, how did we get to this point and is there anything we can do to reverse the destructive trend?
As humans we are riding a slippery slope every day of our lives filled with obstacles of our own making and conditioning by others. We have been trained through fear how to respond, follow, accept, give up or react to atrocities. We are often led down a primrose path created by government, the oil industry and Big Pharma to our own destruction. Sometimes it is done in ignorance, too often it is down for control.

We are kept in the dark about so much that it is almost impossible for the average Joe to decide what is or isn’t truth. We have been made emotionally numb, intellectually obtuse, and physically impotent lacking the moral fortitude it takes to continue to be the greatest nation in the world. We are given information on a “needs to know” basis and the leaders of our nation seem to think that there is little we really need to know.
If we don’t stand up for what is right, what is compassionate, what is in OUR best interest as a nation, we will not survive as a people. One might ask, “How? How can I as an individual make a difference?”

An objective look at history will show you that it has always been one person (negative or positive) at a time beginning a movement, speaking out and taking a stand in spite of fears, doubts and nay sayers that created some of the biggest changes in the world. It was what is called alternative and complementary medicine today that gave birth to modern medicine even when it meant burning at the stake. It still takes only one passionate person at a time to get the ball rolling.
We have the right of choice. We are the masters of our ships. There are always options from which to choose. One need only to overcome fear and limiting beliefs to make a logical discerning decision, and stay the course. We are all of value at some level and have the right to stand up for ourselves, our beliefs and our religious principles.
We have options. We need only to take advantage of those options already in place. Voting is a choice. Education is a choice. Becoming involved within our communities is a choice, traditional or alternative medicine is also a choice. Take a step out of the darkness and back into the light to take control of your own future rather than allowing yourself to be led by the diplomatic, and often wealthy, bullies of the world.
According to Forbes, Russell Andrews, a neurosurgeon and author of Too Big To Succeed, stated that the medical industry has gone from a goal of providing healthcare to everyone, to a goal of insuring the top dogs of industry usurp profit for their own benefits in the form of exorbitant salaries. Not that that is surprising. It is acceptable practice in most bureaucratic organizations.
So, is it “profit” that is the barrier to affordable healthcare, or “salaries” and other costs such as the Executive Physicals, that keep the financial bar out of reach? According to the New England Journal of Medicine the little known practice of using Executive Physicals that increase costs passed on to consumers, is a program which is non-evidence based, but used for specialty testing:
“these exams, which often exceed thousands of dollars, offer CEOs and other executives a battery of tests that are often not evidenced-based. These can include stress tests, cardiac CT scans, and other full-body scans. Bluntly put, they symbolize the excessive testing pervading American medicine today.
As efforts to reform the health care system continue, the executive physical is a perfect example of what American medicine should be working to expunge: the expensive, the ineffective, and the inequitable.”
According to Becker’s Hospital Review, the CEO of the Mayo Clinic, a non-profit institution, makes approximately $2 million a year, with other top execs making approximately $1 million a year, followed by physicians who make slightly less than $500 a year which, by the way, is more than the President of the United States makes. It is my opinion that this has nothing to do with profit and everything to do with greed.
It matters not if the money is going to a for-profit or a non-profit organization. Bottom line is that these over the top salaries running into the millions, and expensive Executive Physicals, threatens our ability to provide needy patients with affordable medical care.
Is there any wonder that the Big Pharma and medical industry have blocked alternative or complementary medicine from providing services by maligning their reputations and efficacy? They have become pros at using fear tactics and have been reputed to use threats and strong arm tactics to keep Holistic programs and services off the market. After all…who would be willing to pay hundreds of dollars for medication or surgeries, when there are less invasive, less expensive options available?
