4th of July Interstate Road Report

The Florida Department of Transportation offers insights on what motorists can expect around the Tampa Bay area.

Tampa Bay area residents planning to hit the road for the 4th of July weekend should find construction-related delays won’t be a problem along the region’s interstate system Friday and Saturday.

The Florida Department of Transportation has announced that no lane closures are planned in Pasco, Hernando, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties on Friday or Saturday. Ongoing construction work and related lane closings, however, will resume as normal on Sunday, July 5.

Motorists can expect lane closings associated with the following projects to resume on Sunday evening:

  • Interstate 275 widening from State Road 60 to the Hillsborough River – Some lane closings are planned from Memorial Highway to downtown Tampa, along West Shore Boulevard at I-275, Cypress Street at I-275, Dale Mabry Highway at I-275 and Howard and Armenia avenues at I-275. The Cypress Street closing will affect all lanes on that road at I-275 from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. A day lane closure is also planned for Lois Avenue at I-275 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The right northbound and southbound lanes are expected to close.
  • I-275 ramp extension at Interstate 75 and State Road 56 – Nightly lane closures northbound on I-275, approaching I-75, are planned between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. The northbound I-275 exit to State Road 56 will be closed between 10:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
  • I-75 widening from Fowler Avenue to State Road 56 – Nightly lane closings are planned northbound on I-75 between Fowler and State Road 56 Sunday through Wednesday between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. One to two lanes may close southbound on I-75 from State Road 56 to Fowler Avenue from 10:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday. One to two lanes may also close northbound to State Road 56 between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday and Monday. One to two lanes of Fowler Avenue from I-75 to Riverhills Drive may close in each direction Sunday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • I-75 widening from County Road 54 to State Road 52. One lane may close in each direction on I-75 between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday. There may be a closing on State Road 52 between Old Pasco Road and McKendree Road between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday. Motorists are advised to keep an eye out for flaggers.
  • I-75 in Hernando – One lane may close in each direction from the Pasco County Line north to County Road 41 between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
