Armed Man Arrested After Fleeing from Police

Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies say the North Tampa man was carrying a loaded gun and drugs.

A North Tampa man is behind bars without bond after police say he fled during a routine stop.

The incident unfolded Aug. 16 around 7 p.m. when a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a man riding a bicycle in the area of East 127th Avenue and North 15th Street. The man provided the officer a false name. When the officer was walking back from his cruiser to confront the man about the name, the man took off on foot, an email to media from the sheriff’s office said.

After taking off, the man slipped while running through a puddle and fell, revealing a loaded .357 Smith & Wesson snub-nose revolver in his waistband, the email said. The deputy chased the man and was able to make an arrest without further incident.
