Kirk Pinkerton's Bill Robertson Expands Helping Our Heroes Initiative

Bill Robertson, CEO and personal injury attorney with Kirk Pinkerton, is expanding the Helping Our Heroes initiative.

Bill Robertson, CEO and personal injury attorney with the prestigious Kirk Pinkerton, P.A. law firm in Sarasota, is expanding the Helping Our Heroes initiative, a collaborative, nonprofit concept to assist returning military veterans with their financial and employment needs. The effort will join forces with new community partners to expand its reach due to tremendous increased interest.

Robertson, a fifth generation attorney, brings his passion for justice to the airwaves every Friday from 4 – 5 p.m. on “ Let’s Talk Law with Bill Robertson,” a radio show that covers every legal subject and takes listeners beyond the courtroom. The show airs on WSRQ’s 106.9FM, 98.9FM and 1220AM. On the last Friday of each month, the show is dedicated to veterans and the Helping Our Heroes initiative.

Launched in March, the show has already helped featured veterans find employment, and has paired up local business owners with veterans in need of financial support and employment opportunities. Robertson’s ultimate goal for this initiative is to create a one-stop website with resources, such as benefits, services and employers, specifically for our local veterans to access.

“I was surprised by how many resources are available to veterans and the number of businesses willing to help,” said Robertson. “Currently there is not one place that houses all the resources, where philanthropic business owners can also use to offer assistance. I envision this website as being a conduit for these partnerships and all available tools.”

Since the Helping our Heroes initiative launched in 2013, the program has exploded with increased interest and people looking to get involved.

As part of this effort, the Kirk Pinkerton Veterans Scholarship Fund, a financial resource when no other funds are available, gifts $2,500 per year to veterans seeking a higher education. To date, two recipients have received scholarships to pursue their educational goals.

“This initiative has been even more successful than I could have imagined,” said Robertson, whose father was also an attorney and a decorated, combat-wounded World War II lieutenant. “We look forward to expanding this initiative to work with additional community partners on this effort, including the Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County.”

Valerie Goddard, executive director of the Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County and former Deputy Director of the Children’s Division of the Department of Defense comes from a military family. She will appear on the August 29 show to discuss the needs of the women veterans that come through the nonprofit’s doors.

“The Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County has seen a significant increase in requests from women veterans,” said Goddard. “We can provide the wraparound services, including professional counselors, to help women veterans feel safe, welcome and supported so they can easily transition back to civilian life. This partnership provides a referral resource to us to assist those women seeking financial support and employment opportunities.”
