Expect dozens of exhibitors, expert advice, kids' activities, pet adoptions, and celebrity guests, though you'll still need to budget for parking at the International Drive venue.
   

2. Orlando halts Leu Gardens expansion over Amendment 3 concerns (wesh.com) — Orlando officials have hit pause on the multimillion-dollar expansion of Harry P. Leu Gardens, citing community feedback and uncertainty over property tax revenues tied to Florida's Amendment 3. The city says it will instead focus on repairs, aging infrastructure, and safe daily operations while keeping residents updated on any future plans for the beloved north-of-downtown gardens.
   

3. Jaylen Edgar found guilty in deadly Orlando Halloween shooting (mynews13.com) — An 18-year-old has been found guilty of first-degree murder and other charges in connection with the 2024 Halloween shooting in downtown Orlando that killed two people and injured seven. The case prompted a local state of emergency, curfew in the Downtown Entertainment District, and temporary closures along North Orange Avenue as the city responded to the violence.
   

4. Commemorating a semiquincentennial (yourcommunitypaper.com) — You can now explore a patriotic new exhibition at the Orlando Museum of Art, celebrating 250 years of American history through works by Ansel Adams, Jasper Johns, and more. The "USA 250" show, featuring diverse perspectives on the nation's evolution, runs in Orlando through October 4, giving locals plenty of time to visit.
   

5. Melbourne mom thanking Good Samaritan strangers who helped her son during scooter accident (fox35orlando.com) — A Melbourne middle-schooler who crashed his scooter was treated at Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital in Orlando and is now recovering from a concussion. His mom is thanking the strangers who rushed to help and is urging parents across Central Florida to insist on helmets for kids riding scooters, bikes, and e-bikes, especially during the new school year.
