Here are the top stories today in Orlando:
1. A Christmas tradition returned to Orlando on Sunday with the annual installation of the Jack Kazanzas Star. The tradition began in the 1950s when competing department stores joined forces to raise the star in downtown. The star symbolizes the start of the holiday season. (Click Orlando)
2. Three people were found dead inside of an Orlando home on Saturday afternoon at the 3600 block of Leanne Court. Police say they believe the deceased died from a drug overdose. (WESH)
3. Florida is ranked the number two state with the lowest flu vaccination rates in the United States of America. The states with the highest flu vaccination rates are Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Massachusetts. Almost anyone over 6 months of age can get a flu vaccine. (WFLA)
4. Disney has responded to reports and social media blogs about ending the vaccine mandates at its Florida properties. The corporation said, "more than 90 percent of active Florida-based Cast Members have already verified that they are fully vaccinated. We will address legal developments as appropriate." (WFTV)
5. A bill filed Thursday by Senator Ileana Garcia (R-Miami) in the Florida Senate seeks to ensure that patients and residents of hospitals, nursing homes and other health-care facilities can have visitors. The bill is a response to COVID-19 restrictions at health and home-care facilities. It would require facilities to allow visitors during a pandemic and if unsafe, facilities would be forced to "develop alternate visitation protocols that allow visitation to the greatest extent possible while maintaining client health and safety" under the bill.
