Here are the top stories in Orlando today:
1. An Orlando woman is pleading for federal leaders to make the American Rescue Plan Act insurance subsidies permanent. The subsidies allowed over 300,000 Floridians to qualify for coverage. Congress is currently negotiating whether to include it in the Build Back Better Act, the reconciliation package House Democrats are pushing. People may have to drop coverage without subsidies or tax credits. (Spectrum News 13)
2. See you in court: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says he will challenge in federal court and through legislation any vaccine mandates placed on employers or others by President Joe Biden. DeSantis said, "I am offended that a police officer could potentially lose their job."(Politico)
3. Despite a recent closure in Winter Park, Bad As's Sandwich is planning to open a new restaurant at Holden Hub in Edgewood. Owner John Collazo says he is also planning to get his sauces into retail spaces. (Click Orlando)
4. The Orlando International Fringe Festival announced it will bring back its Winter Mini-Fest in January 2022. It will be held at multiple venues in downtown Orlando including Haos on Church and the historic train station. (Bungalower)
5. Officials say Brightline's connection from West Palm Beach to the Orlando International Airport is more than 60% complete and on track for a late 2022 completion. The extension is expected to create thousands of jobs. (Fox 35 Orlando)
