National Guard Couple Gets Married During Hurricane (Video)

The Florida National Guard couple didn't let Hurricane Irma ruin their wedding plans when they were deployed.

ORLANDO, FL—Lauren Durham and Michael Davis were set to have a September wedding on the beach. Then Hurricane Irma came around.

The two are senior airman with the Florida Air National Guard and were deployed before the wedding was set to happen, the Associated Press reports. The pair was waiting out the hurricane in the Orange County Convention Center before they could head to areas severely damaged in the storm.

One morning, a friend asked them, "Hey, why don't you guys get married during the hurricane?"

Fellow service members were able to whip up folding chairs, a bouquet of flowers and a wedding officiant, a miraculous feat during a state emergency. Durham's wedding dress was notably missing, but she told the AP, "I love wearing this uniform, so this works."

As Hurricane Irma barrelled through Florida, the two didn't consider for a second neglecting their service to attend their scheduled wedding. "Service before self," Davis told the AP.
