City of Orlando District 6 Commissioner Bakari F. Burns and members of the community will come together to celebrate the life of L. Claudia Allen with the unveiling of a new plaque at the Orlando senior center named in her honor.

Allen was a dedicated educator whose commitment to the children of Orlando and their families extended far beyond the classroom. Throughout her lifetime Allen worked to build a home for physically disabled youth, opened a school for children with mental disabilities and started the first Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops for black youth in Orlando.

The city will dedicate a plaque to Allen on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, forty years to the day after the City of Orlando named the L. Claudia Allen Senior Center in her honor, ensuring that future generations will know her name and remember her for her dedication to the City of Orlando.
