1. Hospital chef and artist Nelson Cardenas at Orange County Regional History Center is passionate about feeding Orlando and is being featured for Hispanic Heritage Month as a local health care hero. When asked why he chose to work in a hospital, Cardenas said, "I'm providing the best product I can give to people in the process of recuperating from being sick." (WESH)

2. A Orange County medical director wants school COVID quarantines to continue despite guidance from the new Surgeon General appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis. Dr. Christian Zuver says the rule doesn't take into consideration asymptomatic people who are still contagious and could infect others. (Spectrum News 13)

3. Local punk bands will join together for a show on Sunday, September 26th at Will's Pub to support the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando. The non-profit recently suffered from a fire that left numerous cats dead. There is a $10 minimum donation for entry and organizers will be accepting additional donations and supplies at the door at well. (Bungalower)

4. An Orange County advisory panel kicked off the first in a series of public meetings this week and aims to redraw county commission district lines to account for the massive population growth over the last decade. (Patch Orlando)

5. A new farmers market is coming to Orlando's Packing District starting Saturday, October 2nd. The market will be run by 4Roots, the non-profit started by 4Rivers founder John Rivers and The Farmacy. The event will run every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature numerous local farms.
