📰 News we're reading

1. Palm Beach Gardens police search for missing woman with dementia (wpbf.com) — Palm Beach Gardens police are urgently asking residents to help find Amber Van Kalken, who has mild dementia and was last seen late Monday morning in the Ballen Isles community near St. James Drive. Neighbors are urged to watch for a woman in a white polka-dot skirt and pink shirt and call Palm Beach Gardens police immediately with any sightings or information.

2. Why wait times for hip, knee replacements could get longer (floridatoday.com) — Proposed Medicare cuts to hip and knee surgeons could mean Palm Beach Gardens retirees like Phil Lilue face much longer waits for joint replacements in coming years. Local orthopedic surgeons at Palm Beach Orthopaedic Institute warn that reduced reimbursements may push doctors away from Medicare, shrinking options for area patients even if their out-of-pocket costs do not immediately rise.

3. Oliver Stanton Foundation (insidephilanthropy.com) — A low-profile private foundation based in Palm Beach Gardens, the Oliver and Elizabeth Stanton Foundation quietly awards over $500,000 annually, mostly to Jewish, Israel-related, cultural, and educational causes. It does not accept unsolicited applications, so local nonprofits with aligned missions would need strong relationships or introductions to be considered for support.

4. Dirty Dining: Inspectors Temporarily Close Four Palm Beach County Restaurants Over Pests (bocapost.com) — Recent state inspections found 12 high-priority violations at Kao Gang Thai Sushi & Noodle Bar in Palm Beach Gardens, leading to a warning and a follow-up visit that still logged five serious issues. The broader report details temporary closures and pest or sanitation problems at several Palm Beach County restaurants, offering a snapshot of current food-safety concerns nearby.
