Palmer Trinity Student Threatened to Kill Classmate Via Text: Police
The student was arrested after police received a tip from an anonymous parent at the private Episcopal day school.

PALMETTO BAY, FL — A 17-year-old student at Palmer Trinity School was arrested on Monday after police received an anonymous tip from a parent who claimed that the student had threatened to kill a classmate via text. Police said the student was carrying a 4-inch black, spring-loaded knife in his book bag. No one was injured.
The name of the teenager is being withheld by Patch because of his age. He is a resident of Coral Gables, according to Miami-Dade police arrest documents, which said that the student celebrated his 17th birthday on Sunday. The student was arrested at 11:30 a.m. on the sprawling 55-acre campus of the private Episcopal day school, which serves 740 students in grades 6-12. The school is located at 8001 SW 184 Street and claims a 100 percent acceptance rate of its graduates in four-year universities.

The 2016-2017 school tuition costs $30,500 per year for middle and upper school children, including breakfast and lunch, according to the school website.

The student was charged with possession of a weapon on school property and aggravated assault.
"An anonymous third-party parent called the Miami-Dade County police shift commander to advise there was going to be a shooting at Palmer Trinity School today," arrest documents stated. "The third-party anonymous parent received the information from their child, who attends the school."
Police immediately responded to the school and separated the teen from his alleged target.
Witnesses told police that the student had threatened to shoot his classmate and "stab him in the neck."
With respect to the knife, the teenager reportedly told police: "I carry it all the time but never pull it out," according to arrest documents.
